Improve Your Driving

By admin, July 26, 2010 6:07 pm

A great driving tip to help your golf game is to ditch the driver completely. The driver is the longest club in the bag and has the lowest amount of loft. The combination of low loft and a long shaft make the driver the most difficult club in the bag to control. Play one round without a driver and see if your driving stats improve. Chances are that they will. You will hit more fairways. less out of bounds. and fewer hazards. leading you to shooting better scores. Instead of a driver. consider teeing off with a fairway wood. Most amateurs will hit their 3 wood about as far as the driver. but the added loft and shorter length will create more accurate shots with a smaller range of shot dispersion.

Golf Swing Mechanics

An aspect of golf swing mechanics that many amateurs overlook is the position of the left wrist at impact. The left wrist should ideally mirror the position of the club face at impact. Often, high handicap golfers have impact positions where their left wrists are bent backwards. This causes them to scoop the ball or to have an open club face, which produces high, sliced shots. At impact, the lead wrist should ideally be flat or slightly bowed. The wrist of the trailing hand should be bent. The resulting effect is that the hands are placed in front of the club head, leading to the golf ball being hit with a descending blow, which is a crucial element in golf swing mechanics for hitting high, crisp, and powerful iron shots.

Science and golf are starting to come together, and the result is an improvement in swing mechanics.

The science of golf swing biomechanics is really starting to change the game. Many golfers are relying on new pieces of computer software that make use of biomechanics to analyze your swing and suggest corrections. Pros have been using golf swing biomechanics for years, but it’s a brand new thing for amateurs and recreational players to have access to this kind of technology.

Golf swing biomechanics are fairly effective when it comes to ironing out weaknesses, but you should always make sure you feel comfortable with your swing. Don’t change to something uncomfortable just because the software suggests it. Find a middle ground that feels right and still corrects the problem.

Thin Shots

Thin shots are usually a huge problem with bad lies. Getting solid contact on the ball is so important to accurate distance and clubbing that failure to do so throws an entire round off kilter. Thin shots aren’t the worst miss a golfer can endure from a bad swing, but it is certainly not the ideal way to strike the ball. Some of the pros actually practice thinning the ball out of certain situations when it is the most effective way to advance the ball. Amateurs should really try to stick to the basics and focus on squaring the clubface at impact while keeping it in the hitting zone as long as possible. A nice, level base to the swing will result in more consistency and less thin shots.
